Rules & regulations when renting a boat on Bonaire

Before taking a rental boat out on the water, it's important to understand the rules of the Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP) as well as knowing our own safety guidelines.
This way you protect nature, sail safely and enjoy your day at sea carefree

Mooring

To protect coral and the seabed, clear rules apply:

This will prevent damage to the coral and keep the snorkeling spots beautiful and safe.

  • Mooring only at yellow moorings along the coast and at Klein Bonaire
  • Do not sail between the yellow buoys and the shore
  • A maximum of one boat allowed
  • Do not anchor on the reef or in coral-rich areas

  • For boats with more powerful engines, a boating license or demonstrable boating experience may be required

What is not allowed?

To protect nature and prevent accidents, these prohibitions are in place:

Do not dive with bottles from a rental boat

❌ The boat do not get stranded on the beach

The boat do not attach to scaffolding or hotels not intended for that purpose

❌ No access to private marinas unless pre-arranged

No alcohol or drugs for the driver of the boat

Enjoyment on board is allowed, but the captain remains sober.

Everything arranged on board

Fuel, deposit and equipment on board

  • You rent the boat excluding fuel
    • Upon return, the actual consumption is charged

  • There is a deposit / excess; we communicate this clearly in advance

  • On board you will find, among other things:
    • lifejackets
    • basic safety equipment
    • explanation of the boat
    • a map of the coastline / main zones

That way you know exactly where you stand before you leave.

When the weather turns

Bad weather & cancellation

Bonaire's weather is usually stable, but boating can be unsafe in extremely high winds or thunderstorms.
